Climate change

Climate change is a constant process. Animals have always had to cope with changing climates. If the climate changes rapidly, though, animals may find it harder to cope.

Current global warming may have several impacts on Australian Fur Seals.

• Increases in the frequency of storms in Bass Strait may reduce pup survival at colonies.

• Increases in sea level may flood low-lying rocks where the seals have colonies.

• Warming of waters around southern Australia may alter prey availability for the seals.
