The seal that holds the record for the deepest and longest duration of dives is the Southern Elephant Seal. These seals can frequently dive to depths of 500 metres and hold their breath for over 30 minutes. Southern Elephant Seals have been recorded diving to almost 2,000 metres and holding their breath for about 2 hours.
