Where Otis went

Weight: 240 kg, Length: 208 cm

Otis is an older male seal who was captured to the north of the main seal beach on Seal Rocks. He was tracked for 193 days between May and December.

On the map below, the coloured line connects locations where Otis’s PTT was detected. Otis spent most of his time in western Bass Strait. He often returned to rest at Seal Rocks and sometimes rested at a small island south of King Island (called Reid Rocks). He often did circuits around King Island. Otis never went to a seal colony during the breeding period. Perhaps he knew he would be too old to be able to hold a territory against a younger and stronger male. Instead, Otis spent his time fishing around the northern end of King Island.
